2006年10月23日，来自美国的朋克乐队My Chemical Roamance发表了他们的第三张录音室专辑《The Black Parade》。
在这张专辑里，主唱Gerard Way站在一个身患癌症、将要死去的年轻人的视角，以倒叙的方式回顾自己的人生旅途，并借着歌曲表达对世间一切的观点和看法，最后肉体死去，徒留歌曲和其中的精神于世间流传。
如果说开篇曲《The End.》描绘的是临死前亲友无意义而又如同祷告一般逐渐远去的挽留的场景，那么紧接着最高点的突然结束而袭来的这首《Dead!》所讲述的便是青年心脏停止跳动的那一瞬间。
在那个时刻，主角宣告死去，灵魂从身体中出窍，20多年碌碌无为的人生走马灯在眼前快速闪过，他开始对自己的英年早逝感到愤怒，并站在第二人称的视角质疑起在病床上死去的那个尸骸是否真的配沦落到这个下场。
在歌曲的最后，伴随着对生命的荒诞性的思考，他与其他的死者一起，加入了灵魂的黑色游行，要去向所谓的天堂或者是地狱。
