History
During Lifetime
Heracles is the son of Zeus and Alcmene, the granddaughter of Perseus.However, since Perseus is also a son of Zeus, it makes Uncle Herc both the great-grandson of the "Shinji of the Age of Gods" and his half-brother; Zeus, you really are a fucking scumbag., and his childhood name was Alcides. Fate/Stay Night
Two months before the Holy Grail War, he was summoned as a Servant by the Einzbern family using a temple cornerstone. Illya contracted with him as his Master using the Command Spells/Magic Circuits across her entire body. The catalyst was later fashioned into Berserker's weapon.
Learning from Kiritsugu Emiya's betrayal in the previous Holy Grail War, the Einzberns placed more importance on the Servant's loyalty in this war, thus adding the Mad Enhancement incantation to the summoning ritual.Considering Uncle Herc's personality and strength as a hero, and how he insists on protecting Illya even under Mad Enhancement, if he were summoned as an Archer and found out what the Einzberns had done, the first thing he'd likely do is fly into a rage and exterminate the entire Einzbern family...
In a small trial given by the family, Illya, due to her inner trauma, left Berserker behind and trekked through the snow alone, only to be attacked by a pack of wolves. Berserker arrived at Illya's cry for help, crouching in front of her to block the fangs and claws. Fate route
Illya waited outside with Berserker when Shirou, Saber, and Rin returned from the church, attempting to kill the three. Berserker suppressed Saber with overwhelming strength. At this moment, Shirou suddenly rushed out to use his body to help Saber block a blow. Seeing this, Illya lost interest and left.
Afterwards, he stayed idle at home until one day Illya and Shirou met in the park, and she kidnapped Shirou to the Einzbern Castle using her Mystic Eyes. In the castle, Illya demanded Shirou become her possession, but Shirou, thinking of Saber, refused. A murderous Illya ordered Berserker to deal with the approaching Saber and Rin.
To allow the others to escape, Rin ordered Archer to stay behind and cover their retreat. Archer died in battle after taking six of Berserker's lives. Afterwards, Illya and Berserker continued to pursue the fleeing Shirou, Saber, and Rin. In an encounter in the forest, Berserker fell for Rin's plan and lost a life to her gem explosion, but still caught Rin with his bare hands, nearly crushing her to death, and drove Saber into a corner. In a moment of crisis, Shirou projected the golden sword from his dreams and, together with Saber, pierced Berserker, killing seven lives with one strike. Having lost all his lives, Berserker exited the stage after praising the power of the holy sword.
UBW route
In this route, Archer was not wounded by Saber and could participate as a combatant during the encounter with Berserker. After Berserker lost one life to Saber's close-range Strike Air while she held the high ground, and another to Archer's Broken Phantasm, Illya decided to retreat.
Afterwards, he stayed idle at home. After Saber was taken by Caster and Archer defected, Rin and Shirou decided to go to Illya for help. However, when the two arrived, Berserker had already begun fighting Gilgamesh, being killed repeatedly by the Gate of Babylon. There would have been a chance of victory if he had abandoned Illya, but Berserker still prioritized protecting Illya above all else. While bound by Enkidu, he recalled memories from when he was first summoned.
As Illya was on the verge of death, Berserker, who had already exhausted God Hand, used his final strength to snap Enkidu and leaped nimbly into the air to attack Gilgamesh. A shocked Gilgamesh killed him with a volley of three Noble Phantasms, praising him for surpassing his own myth.
HF Route
The early stage is the same as the Fate route; after severely wounding Shirou and Saber, Illya lost interest and withdrew.
Later, Illya was attacked in the castle by Saber Alter, True Assassin, and the Shadow. Although Berserker was brave, he was still no match and was swallowed by the Shadow. Shirou, who tried his best to save Illya, also had an arm swallowed by the Shadow.
When Shirou and Kotomine went to rescue Illya, they encountered the blackened Berserker. Shirou tore off the Shroud of Martin on Archer's left arm, projected Berserker's axe-sword and the sword techniques within it, and severely wounded Black Berserker with Nine Lives Blade Works. His Master, Bazdilot Cordelion, did not need a noble Great Hero, so he used three Command Spells and the black mud of Fuyuki City to pollute Heracles, reversing him into the Avenger, Alcides.
The three Command Spells respectively ordered him to "Accept everything," "Recall the humanity you have seen," and "Accept this earthly mantle (humanity)." The black mud produced from the Holy Grail is itself a highly concentrated collection of human desires and curses, which would erode an ordinary Servant upon contact. After being enveloped by the black mud, his height decreased by 50 cm, his skin was dyed reddish-black, and his muscles withered somewhat. Appearance
Dark-skinned and tall (estimated over 2.5m), but without the exaggerated musculature of the Berserker class, leaning more towards a lean and athletic physique. After being tainted by the black mud, his height decreased, but he remains taller than 200cm.
Possessing a body described as a perfect sculpture carved by the gods themselves, his body and blood are filled with "Divine Qi" (Od so pure it can exist as a physical substance within the body, generally considered a trait of those with high Divinity). His mere presence can dominate the atmosphere of the entire area, and those who see him can feel the majesty radiating from him within seconds.
Unlike his simple attire as a Berserker, he wears ancient Greek-style clothing (a tunic and strapped combat boots).
Personality
Contrary to the intimidation brought by his immense power, he possesses a gentlemanly, calm personality and noble character. He will not stand by and watch innocents get caught in danger, nor is he arrogant toward his Master. After all, he served other monarchs during his lifetime.
However, precisely because he is a noble great hero, he has an absolute line that must never be crossed. Heracles will never accept an order to "attack a young child for the sake of victory," and anyone who gives him such an order will be unconditionally regarded as an enemy. In life, Heracles accidentally killed his own wife and children while driven mad by a curse.
Although he possesses a moral code similar to "chivalry" and will not easily betray his Master, if the Master's actions endanger the stability of the world, he will not hesitate to slay them, even if it means being branded as a "Master-killing mad spirit."

Hydra Venom
In legend, Heracles' greatest weakness was the venom of the Lernaean Hydra. After defeating the Hydra, Heracles coated his arrows in its venom; from then on, anyone struck by his arrows was beyond medical help. Even Chiron, who possessed superb medical skills and immortality, chose to give up his immortality after being accidentally wounded by such an arrow because he could not endure the torture of the potent venom.
- Later, the centaur Nessus was shot for harassing Heracles' wife. Before dying, he urged her to smear his blood on her husband's clothes to win back his heart. Thus, the Hydra's venom seeped into Heracles' body through Nessus's blood, causing the great hero unbearable suffering, eventually forcing him to end his own life.
- In Fate, Hydra venom is known as the "Hero Killer," a true nemesis for heroes with robust physical bodies.
- In Fate's setting, Hydra poison can instantly rise to A+ rank against heroes of Greek origin. This can perhaps be understood as: if even a body as strong as that of ancient Greece's greatest hero, Heracles, could not withstand this deadly poison, other heroes naturally cannot either.
- The King of Heroes Gilgamesh's Gate of Babylon contains the antidote to this poison.
Ancient Greece's Greatest Hero
Generally speaking, Heracles, Perseus, and Theseus are collectively known as the three great heroes of ancient Greece, but only Heracles alone is worthy of the title "Ancient Greece's Greatest Hero."
- The achievements of Perseus and Theseus were built more on wisdom and divine assistance:
- Perseus received Noble Phantasms from the gods, such as a sword that ignores immortality and a helmet of invisibility, and killed Medusa, the youngest of the Gorgon sisters, through a sneak attack, but was powerless against the goddesses Euryale and Stheno.
- Theseus used Ariadne's thread to solve the labyrinth and kill the Minotaur.
- In contrast, Heracles completed twelve unparalleled labors mostly through his own strength and wisdom, each of which is sufficient to rival the deeds of Perseus and Theseus.

Regarding Alcides
In the memories of Archer Heracles when he was corrupted by the black mud, figures associated with him during his lifetime appeared.
- Eurystheus: The master he served in life, and the one who issued the command to "complete the Twelve Labors" to Alcides. Zeus fathered Heracles with Alcmene, the granddaughter of Perseus. Before this, Zeus made an oath: the first descendant of Perseus would rule over the others; he intended this glory for his own son, but Hera interfered, causing Eurystheus to be born first, and thus Heracles had to obey his cousin. Eurystheus feared Heracles, the son of the great god, and called him a "monster."
- Jason: The captain of the Argo and a close friend of Heracles during his life. One of the few people who viewed Heracles as a pure human and a great hero. Alcides believes that although Jason is greedy and arrogant, he is indeed one of the few most "human" humans he has ever seen. His friendship with Jason remained unchanged even after being blackened. When his Master insulted Jason, he said: "That man is indeed an incomparably arrogant and overconfident fool... but even so, he is still my friend. I will not allow you, who never sat on that ship, to insult him as you please."Later, in FGO 2.5.1, Jason also roared at Caenis: "How dare you insult Heracles! You bastard!"
- Megara: Heracles' first wife, the daughter of the King of Thebes. Her name is not explicitly mentioned, but the name starting with "M" shouted out, combined with the content of the memories, confirms it is Megara. A gentle and beautiful woman, one of the few who did not fear Heracles. However, when the goddess's curse descended without warning, she and her three children were killed by her beloved husband.

Herc the Training Dummy
God Hand (Twelve Labors) is one of the most broken Noble Phantasms in the entire series; if used properly, it can be imagined as an almost invincible existence. Noble Phantasms with high damage but low Mystery cannot harm Berserker, which in itself can counter most Servants, as few people besides Gilgamesh and EMIYA can produce that many high-rank Noble Phantasms. If Lancer faces Berserker, he can use Runes to boost his strength to A-rank, giving him some chance of winning, but he is still at a disadvantage. For Rider, using Bellerophon might kill one or two lives, but for Berserker, failing to kill all twelve lives is meaningless.
However, this broken Noble Phantasm performed average in all three routes: in the Fate route, he was killed seven times in one strike by Shirou and Saber; in the UBW route, he was toyed with and defeated by Gilgamesh without taking damage; and in the HF route, being killed by Shirou using Nine Lives is even harder to explain. One theory is that Black Berserker had already lost God Hand during his blackening. In every route, he is a powerful mid-stage boss who loses because his own "cheats" are broken by even stronger "cheats."
Because of this, in debates on the Baidu Fate Bar and other places, Berserker has almost become a universal training dummy, used to compare how many of Berserker's lives various Noble Phantasms' damage can take while he stands still.
In Fate/Prototype, Berserker's Noble Phantasm was the even more broken "Twelve Victories." However, when fighting the prototype version of Gilgamesh, because the opponent held the Noble Phantasm "Absolute Survival," it ended with him winning consecutively but ultimately dying.
FGO Gameplay
In FGO, Herc is a god-of-war-like existence. His 4-star base stats, Berserker class health/defense, and Triple Buster deck determine that his output even surpasses 5-star units who can only deal neutral damage. Moreover, his skill set is simple and crude, with no wasted skills, combining offense and defense, which solidifies his status as the most profitable 4-star from the tutorial summon and a god-of-war for newbies clearing maps. Most stages in Part 1, including the final boss Goetia, can be cleared with a Herc equipped with his Bond CE (i.e., Snow Herc). Even in the hands of players with established rosters, Herc often plays the role of the final line of defense in the sixth slot for high-difficulty stages, finishing off the boss after the preceding team has shaved off as much HP as possible.
In the Holy Grail Front event implemented in 2020, Herc dominated even more; a level 90 Herc could take out enemies with a Buster Brave Chain even without activating his first skill. As long as the map allows Herc to be deployed, the entire battle process becomes "Get him, Berserker!" and then Herc solos the entire map.
