hololive(Japanese:ホロライブ) is a virtual YouTuber capture app produced by the Japanese company COVER Corp, and also represents the female group of its virtual YouTuber organization "hololive Production".
Introduction
hololive, meaning Hologram Live System[1], is an app produced by COVER Corp., officially released on December 21, 2017. Initially an app dedicated to watching virtual character live streams, it transitioned into a motion capture app for Virtual YouTubers on April 5, 2018, during the rise of the Virtual YouTuber craze.
The app can utilize a smartphone's front-facing camera to capture the user's facial expressions and map them onto a corresponding virtual avatar for live streaming.
Currently, the available avatars include one modified fromTokino Sora's female model, with customizable hair and eye colors, which is currently used by someIndependentVTubers. In addition, there isNekomasuproducedMikoko, as well as twoLive2Dmodels.
hololive also represents the official Virtual YouTuber talent organization under COVER.

「Good Morning Hololive] (Japanese:おはようホロライブ) is a short video series released every morning on the official Hololive Twitter account starting from June 3, 2019. Each week, one or two Hololive members who have debuted their 3D models serve as hosts, introducing the day's weather and horoscopes.
Every day's AsaHolo is posted on the official Bilibili account after localization by the official subtitling group (replacing the Japanese weather map with a Chinese one and performing translation work). However, due to translation and video review delays, AsaHolo on Bilibili is often not posted on time in the morning. As a result, Chinese netizens call it "Good Afternoon Hololive," "Good Night Hololive," or "Overnight Hololive" depending on the posting time.
Due to the pandemic in Japan, starting from March 30, 2020, Good Morning Hololive was replaced by a collection of NG clips from recording errors. A week later, Good Morning Hololive announced its conclusion due to recording difficulties.[59]。
Shortly after the conclusion of Good Morning Hololive was announced, Hololive 1st Generation memberShirakami Fubukiupdated a self-produced version of Good Morning Hololive daily on Twitter. This version followed the format of the original Good Morning Hololive, but the Japanese weather map was replaced with a hand-drawn map called "Nippon-retto-kun (Nippon-kun)," the weather descriptions were changed to "Nippon-retto-kun" style descriptions, and the 12 horoscope introductions were replaced with the horoscope introduction for the sign with the best luck that day. Eventually, this version of "Good Morning Hololive" also ceased updates.

「Holo's "Gokigenyou"] (Japanese:ホロのご機嫌うるわしゅう) is an official fan club-exclusive variety talk show produced since April 26, 2020. Each episode invites three different Holo members—what kind of sparks will fly from these various combinations? Starting from the second episode in February 2022, the show became a free official program broadcast on the official YouTube channel. Archives previously on the NicoNico Fan Club were moved to the newly established FC Fan Club website. The series concluded on October 29, 2022.

Controversy
Cover China Representative Shi Incident
Since July 18, 2019, due to the actions of Cover's China region representative and legal representative of Shanghai Niujia,Shi,a series of incidents (including mocking the KyoAni fire, suspicions regarding the withholding of donations on the Bilibili platform, and suspected workplace harassment of Hololive members, etc.) caused a strong shock among Chinese fans. In the following days, Cover Japan officially calmed the incident by terminating the contract with Shi and negotiating with Bilibili and the subtitling groups.

On July 18, Shi Weibin (hereinafter referred to as "Shi"), the legal representative of Shanghai Niujia Information Technology Co., Ltd., Cover's (hololive's parent company) Chinese partner, stated in a QQ groupthe KyoAni arson attackinappropriate remarks such as "the more it burns, the more popular it gets" and "if it were me, I'd burn myself too." On the night of the incident, the QQ group was disbanded by Shi (Shi claimed in his apology letter that this was to erase chat records). In the early hours of July 19, subtitling group members pointed out that VTubers belonging to hololive had not received their earnings from streaming on Bilibili. On the same day, chat screenshots provided within the group showed that Shi allegedly harassed the VTubers' performers. Around midnight on July 20,subtitling groups for multiple hololive members went on strike, and posted screenshots showing that no bank card was linked, indicating that the streaming earnings were still in the official account and had not been unauthorizedly withdrawn by Shi[shi 1_]。 At 4:00 on July 20th,Huanye Subtitle Groupannounced that each group would operate independently, the general leader Yeye yaya ye resigned from the position of general leader, and began investigating the incident. On the 21st, Cover announced the termination of the contract with Shi. The announcement confirmed Shi's inappropriate remarks regarding the KyoAni fire, while the embezzlement of income and harassment of employees were found to be inconsistent with the facts.[shi 2] On the 22nd, Cover negotiated with Bilibili and the subtitle groups to restructure the operation system in China, and Shi issued a public apology. On March 31, 2019, hololive memberMinato Aquatalked about the origin of bubble tea in an evening stream. Initially, she said it was from China, but after comments pointed out it was from Taiwan, Minato Aqua changed her statement to Taiwan, putting China and Taiwan on the same level, which led to the Bilibili stream room being banned,[Ref 1][Ref 2]The subsequent livestream that night was also temporarily canceled.[Ref 3]This is the so-called "Taiwan Milk Tea Incident."[citation needed], the bilibili livestream room was unbanned within a week. On June 11, 2020, memberYuzuki ChocoDuring the battle withFriend AandNekomata Okayu's Twitter Q&A session during the evening livestream,[Ref 4]included a question provided by a netizen about "countries where the cat is not in the Zodiac," which included "Tibet" as an option (the questioner explained this was a mistake due to their own lack of knowledge).[Note 2 2][Ref 5]resulted in the bilibili livestream room being permanently banned. On the afternoon of the same day, the official Hololive bilibili account posted an apology regarding the incident during the livestream, stating they would strengthen education and not repeat the same mistake.[Ref 6]The bilibili live room was unbanned one month later (July 14), but broadcasts did not resume until September 24 of the same year. On September 24, 2020, memberAkai Haatoduring a livestream, while orally introducing the audience demographics, opened a YouTube Studio webpage that listed Hong Kong and Taiwan as "countries" alongside other countries[Note 2 3]and read out the sensitive content without it being displayed on the screen. This led to the bilibili live room being banned.[Ref 7][Ref 8][Ref 9] On September 25, 2020, memberKiryu Cocoin her personal program "Asacoco Live News," once again used and directly displayed a YouTube Studio image that listed Hong Kong and Taiwan as "countries" alongside other countries. This incident was identical to the one that led to the bilibili live room ban the previous dayAkai Haatoand the broadcast was immediately terminated. Kiryu Coco's bilibili live room was also banned for one month, which was later changed to a permanent ban. The video was subsequently hidden by management on YouTube until the early hours of the next day, when a version with the controversial content edited out was re-uploaded.[Ref 10] On September 27, 2020, hololive's official Bilibili channel released its first response, "Statement Regarding the Appearance of Erroneous Content in Recent Livestreams by Our Company's Talents," apologizing for the appearance of inappropriate content and stating that COVER Corporation respects Chinese sovereignty, the "Joint Communiqué of the Government of Japan and the Government of the People's Republic of China," and the "Japan-China Peace and Friendship Principles'"One Chinaprinciple, and the disciplinary decision will be announced later.[Ref 11] At 19:45, official Japanese and Chinese statements were issued, stating that forAkai HaatotoKiryu Cocoa punishment of 3 weeks suspension of activities was imposed; an English statement with the same content was also released subsequently.[Ref 12][Ref 13][Ref 14]。 On September 30, 2020, hololive official provided a further explanation of the statement on the 27th, explaining that the Chinese announcement on the 27th was released under the guidance of a Chinese partner company, apologizing for the confusion in wording between the Chinese and Japanese versions, and that shareholders held an emergency meeting and issued a severe warning and disciplinary action to the then-CEO YAGOO. On October 18, 2020, hololive official provided an explanation regarding theAkai HaatoandKiryu Cocomatters related to the upcoming resumption of streaming on the 19th, and established a Compliance Committee to further prevent sensitive content. On October 24, 2020, the YouTube platform corrected the controversial YouTube Studio title for the statistical data; after the correction, the titles in Japanese, English, and Chinese environments are "上位の地域", "Top geographies", and "热门地理位置" respectively. On November 12, 2020, hololive official released an announcement disclosing the graduation dates for five hololive CN members excluding Spade Echo, and later announced Spade Echo's graduation date on the 16th of the same month. On December 27, 2020, hololive China member Rosalyn held her graduation stream. With this, all members of the hololive China branch have graduated. On June 9, 2021, Kiryu Coco released a major announcement at noon, stating that she would graduate on July 1 due to differences in management philosophy.
